BELL'S PALSY
A NERVE DISEASE - MANAGEMENT
Bell's Palsy is a Nerve dysfunction manifested by sudden facial muscle weakness or paralysis on one side of the face and trouble in closing eye. The exact cause of Bell's Palsy is unknown, but it is believed to involve a combination of viral infections, inflammation, and immune system responses.
Viral infections, specifically the herpes simplex virus(HSV), are thought to trigger the condition. Inflammation occurs within the facial nerve, compromizing nerve functions. This inflammation disrupts the normal transmission of signals from the brain to the facial muscles, resulting in facial drooping or paralysis. The inflammation may also affect taste sensations of the tongue. While viral infections and inflammation are key factors, genetic predisposition, certain health conditions, and environmental factors may also contribute.
