What it is
Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty in falling asleep, or maintaining sleep, or experiencing non-refreshing sleep, despite having adequate sleep environment.
Significant number of people are living with Insomnia which can lead to various daytime impairments, including unusual fatigue, trouble in concentrating, mood disturbances, & impacts everyday functioning.
Insomnia affects people of all ages, although it becomes more common with age. Approximately 30% of adults experience symptoms of insomnia, and about 10% meet the diagnostic criteria for a clinical diagnosis. Insomnia can have detrimental impacts on individuals' quality of life, affecting their physical health, comforts of life, working performances, and social welbeing.
Practicing healthy sleep hygiene and lifestyle modifications can significantly contribute to improving sleep quality and preventing the onset or recurrence of insomnia. Maintaining a regular sleep schedule, creating a sleep-conducive environment, managing stress, cutting down stimulants, engaging in regular physical activity, and avoiding stimulating activities before bedtime are some of the proven keys that can enhance better sleep.
