If life, limb, or health is at serious risk, transport the patient immediately to the nearest hospital or clinic before contacting your family physician.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

  • A medical emergency is a sudden, serious, and often life-threatening condition requiring immediate medical intervention to prevent death, permanent disability, or severe harm to a patient’s life, limb, or health.

EMERGENCY! WHAT TO DO

A medical emergency is a life-threatening situation requiring immediate action.

  • 3 CRITICAL STEPS:

    CHECK:

Is the person unconscious, bleeding severely, or struggling to breathe?
  • CALL:

Dial emergency services (e.g.999, or local ambulance) FIRST.
  • CARE:

Provide first aid (e.g., CPR, stop bleeding) only if trained.
  • DON’T WAIT!

Every second counts. Go to the nearest hospital if help is delayed. Keep emergency numbers saved in your phone!

EMERGENCY! WHAT NOT DO

  • DON’T DELAY

Never wait to see if symptoms "go away." Call for help FIRST.
  • DON’T GIVE FOOD/WATER

Choking risk if unconscious or semi-conscious.
  • DON’T IGNORE "SILENT" EMERGENCIES
